Guandi Temple Introduction

Main Deity: Chenghuang God Chenghuang, in ancient times, referred to the city and the moats surrounding it; moats with water are called "chi" and those without water are "huang". Therefore, Chenghuang refers to the god protecting the city and its defenses. In the belief that all things possess a spirit, the elevated city and the low-lying moats have defensive functions while also ensuring the safety of the citizens. It is natural for people to worship the city. In the Ming Dynasty, a defense unit was established in Kinmen City, which had both a city and a considerable population, leading to the construction of a Chenghuang Temple for city defense and protection. The city was destroyed by pirates and war at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and it was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty.
