Taoist Temple of the God of Earth Introduction

Main Deity: City God (Cheng Huang) In ancient times, "Cheng Huang" referred to the city and the city moat. If the moat contained water, it was called "Chi" (池), and if it was dry, it was called "Huang" (隍). Therefore, Cheng Huang symbolizes the deity that protects the city. In the belief that all things possess a spirit, the elevated areas of the city (Cheng) and the low-lying moats (Huang) serve a defensive function and ensure the safety of the entire populace. It is natural for people to worship the city. During the Ming Dynasty, a guard station for a thousand households was established in Jinmen City, which not only had a city but also a large population, thus a Cheng Huang Temple dedicated to guarding the city was built. The city of Jinmen was destroyed by bandits and warfare towards the end of the Ming Dynasty, and it was rebuilt during the Qing Dynasty.
