Maoshan Tower Introduction
Kinmen has three ancient pagodas, among which the most striking is the Maoshan Pagoda. Maoshan Pagoda is located in the southwestern corner of Kinmen Island, near the Shuitou Wharf. From the observation platform of Maoshan Pagoda, one can see the entire view of the Shuitou settlement, as well as the distant Jinchen urban area, Houfeng Harbor, and the island of Jian Gongyu in the sea. At dusk, visitors can enjoy the beautiful sunset view at the mouth of Wujiang Creek. Climbing this tower provides a panoramic view in all directions, invoking a sense of ancient charm. The Wentai Pagoda, the Reflection Pagoda, and the Maoshan Pagoda were all built during the Ming Dynasty by Zhou Dexing, the Marquis of Jiangxia, as military structures in Kinmen during the Hongwu period to assess the situation and establish forts as navigation markers. Maoshan Pagoda has six levels, with a rocky base, narrowing at the top and widening at the bottom. The pagoda's top is shaped like a gourd and is built with solid granite, presenting a hexagonal form. Due to its elevated position, it is regarded as an important landmark of Shuitou. The road leading to Maoshan Pagoda is designed beautifully, featuring steps and small bridges. At the entrance of the hiking trail, there is a stone mural depicting the "Map of the Qing Dynasty Kinmen Thousand Household Fort," allowing you to glimpse the prosperity of old Kinmen. The entrance to the Maoshan Pagoda hiking trail also provides an image of the scenery, and one can visit the beach to enjoy the beautiful sandy sea views of Kinmen, ensuring a worthwhile trip.
