Mao Mountain Pagoda Introduction
Jinmen (Kinmen) has three ancient towers, among which the most prominent is the Maoshan Tower. Located at the southwest corner of Kinmen Island, near the Shuitou Pier, the observation platform of Maoshan Tower offers a panoramic view of the Shuitou settlement, the distant Jincheng urban area, Houfeng Harbor, and the offshore isolated island of Jianggong Islet. At dusk, visitors can also enjoy the beautiful sunset over the mouth of the Wuchang River. Climbing this tower provides a broad view of the surroundings and evokes reflections on history. The Wenta Pagoda, the Reflection Tower, and the Maoshan Tower were all built during the Ming Dynasty by Zhou Dexing, a general from Jiangxia, in the Hongwu period as military fortifications in Jinmen to assess the situation and serve as maritime navigational markers. The Maoshan Tower consists of six levels, with a rocky base, tapering from top to bottom, and the spire features a gourd-shaped top made of solid granite, presenting a hexagonal shape. Due to its high location, it is regarded as an important landmark of Shuitou. The current pathway leading to Maoshan Tower is designed beautifully, featuring steps and small bridges. At the entrance to the hiking trail, there is a stone mural depicting "the Ming Dynasty Jinmen Thousand Household Fort," allowing visitors to glimpse the prosperity of old Jinmen City. The entrance also offers imagery of the Maoshan Tower hiking trail, and visitors can enjoy the beautiful beach and seascape of Jinmen, ensuring a worthwhile visit.
