Maoshang Tower Introduction
Kinmen has three ancient towers, among which the most prominent is the Maoshan Tower. Located at the southwestern corner of Kinmen Island, near Shuicao Pier, the viewing platform of Maoshan Tower offers a comprehensive view of the Shuicao settlement, as well as distant sights of Jincheng urban area, Houfeng Harbor, and the solitary island of Jinguang Islet. At dusk, one can also gaze upon the beautiful sunset at the mouth of Wu River. Climbing this tower presents a perspective from which to contemplate history and nostalgia. The Wentai Pagoda, Reflection Tower, and Maoshan Tower were all constructed by Zhou Dexing, the Marquis of Jiangxia during the Ming Dynasty, in the early years of the Hongwu era to establish military posts on Kinmen and serve as maritime markers. Maoshan Tower consists of six levels, with a rocky base that tapers toward the top. The tower has a gourd-shaped pinnacle made of solid granite and features a hexagonal shape. Due to its elevated position, it is regarded as an important landmark of Shuicao. The road leading to Maoshan Tower is beautifully designed with steps and a small bridge. At the entrance, there is a stone mural depicting "The Ming Dynasty Kinmen Thousand Households Fort Map," allowing you to witness the prosperity of Old Kinmen. The entrance to the Maoshan Tower trail also features scenic representations, and you can visit the beach to enjoy the beautiful sandy coastal views of Kinmen, ensuring a rewarding trip.
