Maosan Pagoda Introduction
Kinmen has three ancient towers, the most prominent of which is the Maoshan Tower. Located at the southwestern corner of Kinmen Island, near Shuitou Harbor, the observation deck of Maoshan Tower offers a panoramic view of the Shuitou settlement, as well as the distant Kinmen City, Houfeng Harbor, and the offshore island of Gengong Islet. At dusk, visitors can also enjoy the beautiful sunset view at the mouth of Wujiang River. Climbing this tower allows for a comprehensive view from all directions, evoking a sense of nostalgia. The Wentai Pagoda, the Reflection Tower, and the Maoshan Tower were all constructed during the Ming Dynasty by General Zhou Dexing of Jiangxia in the Hongwu period as military watchtowers to serve as maritime navigational markers. Maoshan Tower consists of six stories with a rocky base, narrowing at the top and widening at the bottom, featuring a gourd-shaped pinnacle made of solid granite, and is hexagonal in shape. Due to its elevated position, it is regarded as an important landmark of Shuitou. The path leading to Maoshan Tower is beautifully designed with steps and small bridges, and at the trailhead, there is a stone mural depicting the "Map of the Ming Dynasty Kinmen Qianhu Fort," allowing visitors to witness the prosperity of Old Kinmen. The entrance to the Maoshan Tower hiking path and other scenic spots also provide the opportunity to view Kinmen's beautiful sandy beaches and sea views, ensuring a fulfilling visit.
