The 7th Gold Medal Delicacies - Fermented Tofu, Buckwheat, Pickled Vegetables The 8th Gold Medal Delicacies - Burmese Shrimp Paste Certified Muslim-friendly restaurant by the Chinese Muslim Association Muslim Restaurant (abbreviated as MR) is a restaurant operated by Muslims, founded by Chinese expatriates from Yunnan, Myanmar. It has been in Taiwan for over ten years. Nostalgic for the flavors of home, the founders began handcrafting Yunnan fermented tofu, buckwheat, pickled vegetables, and traditional fermented soybean cakes, sharing them with friends and family, which built up their reputation. For Yunnan families, every meal is incomplete without pickled vegetables, which are natural fermented products and healthy foods. Among them, shrimp paste is an essential condiment found in every household in Myanmar. Despite its small size, it has a long history. Legend has it that one year, an emperor passed through a rural home while on a military campaign and found no dishes on the table, only shrimp paste to eat with rice. The emperor, intrigued, tried it and upon returning to the palace, felt that the food there was lacking in flavor. He ordered for that family to be brought to the palace to prepare shrimp paste for him daily. Shelf life: 1 year.
