Formosa Plastics Museum Introduction
Formed in 1954, Formosa Plastics Corp. originated from Taiwan Plastics, beginning with a production of four tons of PVC powder per day. It holds the distinction of being the world's smallest production scale at that time. After decades of effort and overcoming numerous challenges, it has become one of the largest PVC powder producers globally. This achievement not only sparked the initial stages of Taiwan's petrochemical industry but also propelled the robust development of the plastics processing industry, making significant contributions to the national economic development. Formosa Plastics has diversified its operations, starting from the plastics industry and gradually expanding into petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, biotechnology, among others, while also broadening its overseas investment ventures. Throughout its development, the company adheres to the principle of "taking from society, giving back to society," and has undertaken various social welfare initiatives in healthcare, education, and more, making it one of the largest privately-owned enterprises in the country. To document the company's struggles and growth, and to create a comprehensive collection of artifacts related to its development, the "Formosa Plastics Cultural Museum" has been established. This museum aims to serve as an information center for the company's sustainable development, preserving its corporate spirit, while also allowing the public to gain insights into the overall development history of Formosa Plastics.
