Formosa Plastics Museum Introduction
Chinatrust Company, founded in 1954 as Taiwan Plastic Company, started with a production of four tons of PVC powder per day, making it one of the smallest production scales in the world. After decades of effort and overcoming various challenges, it has become one of the largest PVC powder producers globally, paving the way for the emergence of Taiwan's petrochemical industry and significantly contributing to the booming plastic processing industry, which in turn benefits the national economy. Chinatrust Company began with the plastic industry and has diversified into petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, and biotechnology, while also expanding overseas investments. Throughout its corporate journey, adhering to the principle of "taking from society, giving back to society," it has initiated medical and educational social welfare programs, making it one of the largest private enterprises in the country. To document the company’s struggles and growth, and to create a comprehensive collection of relevant artifacts that reflect the cultural essence of Chinatrust Company, the "Chinatrust Company Museum" was established. It aims to serve as an information center for sustainable corporate development, preserving the corporate spirit, and helping the public comprehend the profound significance of Taiwan's post-war economic development by understanding the overall development process of Chinatrust Company.
