Formosa Plastics Museum Introduction
The Formosa Plastics Group was founded in 1954 as Taiwan Plastics Company, starting with the production of four tons of PVC powder daily. It is the only one of its kind in the world with such a small production scale. After decades of effort and overcoming various challenges, it has become one of the largest producers of PVC powder globally. The establishment of the company has not only initiated the development of Taiwan's petrochemical industry but also spurred the rapid growth of the plastic processing industry, contributing significantly to the nation's economic development. Formosa Plastics Group has diversified from the plastic industry to various sectors, including petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, and biotechnology, while also expanding its overseas investments. Throughout its development, the company has adhered to the principle of "taking from society and giving back to society," engaging in social welfare projects in healthcare and education as part of its commitment to giving back to the community, making it one of the largest private enterprises in the country. To document the company’s struggles and growth, and to create a complete collection of artifacts related to its development, the "Formosa Plastics Group Museum" was established. It aims to serve as an information center for the company's sustainable development and to pass on its corporate spirit. It also hopes that the public will gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan's economic development after the war through the recognition of Formosa Plastics Group's overall development process.
