Formosa Plastics Museum Introduction
The Formosa Plastics Group was founded in 1954 as Taiwan Plastics Company, starting with a production of four tons of PVC powder per day, making it one of the smallest production scales in the world. After decades of hard work and overcoming various challenges, it has become one of the largest producers of PVC powder globally. This has not only sparked the nascent petrochemical industry in Taiwan but has also fueled the vigorous development of the plastic processing industry, making significant contributions to the national economic development. Formosa Plastics Group has diversified its operations, beginning with the plastic industry and gradually expanding into petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, biotechnology, and overseas investments. Throughout its development, the company has adhered to the principle of "taking from society and giving back to society," establishing public welfare initiatives in healthcare and education to benefit the community, making it one of the largest private enterprises in Taiwan today. To document the struggles and growth of the company, as well as to collect related artifacts from its development process, the Formosa Plastics Museum was established. It aims to serve as an information center for the sustainable development of the company, inheriting the company's spirit. At the same time, it hopes that the public, through understanding the overall development process of Formosa Plastics, will appreciate the profound implications of Taiwan's post-war economic development.
