Formosa Plastics Group Museum Introduction
The Formosa Plastics Group was founded in 1954 as Taiwan Plastic Company, starting with a production of four tons of PVC powder per day. It is the only one in the world with such a small production scale. After decades of effort, overcoming various challenges, it has become one of the largest producers of PVC powder globally. This development not only initiated the nascent phase of Taiwan's petrochemical industry but also spurred the vigorous growth of the plastic processing sector, making significant contributions to the national economic development. Formosa Plastics Group's diversified development began with the plastic industry, gradually expanding into petrochemicals, fibers, textiles, electronics, transportation, heavy industry, energy, automotive, biotechnology, and more, as well as expanding its overseas investments. Throughout its development, it has adhered to the principle of "taking from society, giving back to society," engaging in social welfare initiatives in healthcare and education to give back to the community, and has become one of the largest private enterprises in the country. To document its struggle and growth, and to create a complete collection of artifacts from its developmental process, the "Formosa Plastics Museum" is established to present the cultural essence of Formosa Plastics Group. It aims to serve as a center for information on sustainable development while embodying the spirit of the company. It is also hoped that through understanding the overall development process of Formosa Plastics Group, the public can appreciate the profound implications of Taiwan's post-war economic development.
