The highly popular pork rib restaurant in Tamsui, "Heidian", is not named so because it deceives customers, but rather because the original shop was small and dark, a nickname that has spread among local students over the years. The pork rib rice style at Heidian is reminiscent of the nostalgic rib rice found in military dependents' villages. The owner, with his excellent deep-frying skills, has kept this establishment thriving in Tamsui for over twenty years. The generously sized pork rib on top of the rice is fried to perfection, both fragrant and crispy, with a delightful old-fashioned flavor that is well-known far and wide. Even the crew of the film "Close at Hand" frequents this place for take-out. At Heidian, the pork rib rice not only boasts delicious ribs but also features rice that is particularly chewy and soft, paired with pickled vegetables and pork sauce tofu, preserving the classic flavors of the rib rice from the 1950s and 1960s. The reasonable prices at Heidian are also commendable, with the pork rib rice priced at only NT$90. For those who do not prefer pork rib rice, there are also noodle options available, and adding some side dishes can showcase the owner's impressive stewing skills.
