Bali Famous Rice Cake Introduction
Another famous snack in Bali is the red turtle cake located across from the Liao Tian Ding Temple. The red turtle cake is commonly used as an offering in rituals. Legend has it that Liao Tian Ding had a follower named Hong Guai Zi, so visitors equate the legendary Hong Guai Zi with the red turtle cake, making it the best souvenir of this area. The red turtle cakes produced here are made from pure glutinous rice, giving them a chewy texture. Furthermore, due to their soft skin, they cannot be pressed into shape with a mold, making them different from the commonly seen red turtle cakes that have printed designs.
