Another famous snack in Bali is the red turtle cake located opposite the Liao Tian Ding Temple. The red turtle cake is one of the offerings commonly used in religious ceremonies. According to legend, there was a sidekick of Liao Tian Ding named "Red Turtle," so visitors equate the mythical Red Turtle with the red turtle cake, making it the best souvenir from this area. The red turtle cakes produced here are made from pure glutinous rice, which gives them a chewy texture. Unlike the common red turtle cakes that have patterned molds, these have a soft skin that cannot be imprinted with designs.
