Ayushi Rice Cake

Taipei Foods

A-Yu Rice Cake, the first shop in Jinshan exclusively selling "mochi," has been standing in Jinshan for over 20 years. A-Yu Mama, Kuo Li-Yu Yun, started making mochi as a child to help support her family while learning her craft from her mother. She later transformed what was originally a ceremonial offering for the gods into a snack enjoyed year-round and introduced a variety of flavors, breaking away from the traditional versions that only used peanuts and sesame. It has become a well-known souvenir in the Jinshan area, frequented by former New Taipei City Mayor Zhou Hsi-wei and current New Taipei City Mayor Zhu Li-lun, and is also one of the gifts given by the city government. The early versions of mochi were larger, but they have now been improved to a smaller size, making them bite-sized snacks highly favored by young people, allowing them to experience a fulfilling taste of happiness.
