Zhu's Pork Store

Taipei Foods

Walking into Jinshan Old Street, along this old street filled with both new and old shops, in addition to the myriad of sweet potato products, there is an old store with a big red lantern hanging at its entrance. This is the Zhu Family's Old Store, which has been in operation for over seventy years. The large stove at the entrance of the shop is constantly frying delicious "bu rou" (fried pork) as soon as the store opens each day. This is a great flavor that has been carefully developed and improved over three generations of the Zhu family. The big red lantern at the entrance has become a new landmark for the Zhu family; when visiting Jinshan Old Street, seeing the bright red lantern signifies that the hot "bu rou" is officially on sale. The culinary skills of the family have been passed down since the Japanese colonial period, when the Zhu family was already involved in the snack business in the Jinshan area. According to the current owner, Zhu Cizhou, his grandmother's cooking skills were well-known in Jinshan. Additionally, since Jinshan Old Street is the commercial hub of the surrounding area, various local festivities and events like weddings and funerals would be held on Jinshan Old Street, and it was always the grandmother who would be responsible for the cooking. The famous "bu rou" (fried pork) from Jinshan is an essential dish for these events.
