Liao Township Red Tea Storyhouse Introduction
Liao Mayor Black Tea - Rich and Fragrant | Yuchi Black Tea - Yuchi Black Tea is located in Yuchi Township, Nantou County, and its black tea industry has developed since the Japanese colonial period. In 1925, Japanese imported seeds of the large-leaf variety "Assam Black Tea" from India for experimental planting in the Yuchi Township area. Due to the significant temperature difference between day and night, frequent morning and evening fog, and the acidic red brick soil, the geographical conditions are remarkably similar to the original growing area of Assam Black Tea, thus leading to successful outcomes. Consequently, the Taiwan Governor-General's Office, which governed Taiwan at the time, established the "Yuchi Black Tea Experiment Station" in 1936 as a research center for introducing and promoting Assam black tea. This laid the foundation for the development of the black tea industry in Yuchi Township. The "Liao Mayor Black Tea Story House," completed in 2012, features an exterior rich in European classical elegance, while the interior blends nostalgia with modernity, providing surprises at every turn. Upon entering the Black Tea Story House, visitors are promptly greeted by attentive staff who offer a cup of warm and aromatic black tea, a specialty from Sun Moon Lake in Yuchi Township, to warm both hands and heart. The facility includes a production line for withering, rolling, breaking, fermenting, and drying of black tea, and showcases the equipment used by Liao Mayor's father when he opened a tea factory seventy years ago for visitors to explore.
