Liao Township Changhong Tea Story Museum Introduction
Liao Mayor Black Tea - Rich and Fragrant | Yu Chi Black Tea - Yu Chi Black Tea is located in Yu Chi Township, Nantou County, and its black tea industry has been developing since the Japanese colonial period. In 1925, the Japanese introduced Assam tea tree seeds from India for trial cultivation in the Yu Chi area. Due to the significant temperature difference between day and night, the frequent morning and evening fog, and the acidic brick-red soil, the geographic conditions closely resembled those of Assam’s original cultivation region, leading to successful results. Consequently, the Governor-General of Taiwan established the "Yu Chi Black Tea Experimental Station" in 1936 in Yu Chi as a research center dedicated to the introduction and promotion of Assam black tea. This laid the foundation for the development of the black tea industry in Yu Chi Township. The "Liao Mayor Black Tea Story Museum," which was completed in 2012, features an exterior exuding a classical European charm, while the interior blends nostalgia and modernity, surprising visitors at every turn. Upon entering the black tea museum, visitors are warmly greeted by staff who serve a cup of moderately warm, aromatic, and sweet Yu Chi Township Sun Moon Lake specialty black tea to warm both hands and hearts. The museum features a series of production lines for tea withering, rolling, loosening, fermenting, and drying. It also showcases the equipment used by Liao Mayor's father when he opened a tea factory seventy years ago, available for visitors to explore.
