Exploding Chicken Taiwanese Cuisine Restaurant Introduction
It is a characteristic specialty store in Huatan Township, previously operated as an herbal shop. After the second generation took over, they creatively used the traditional earthen oven for roasting herbs to make clay oven chicken. The nearby vegetable garden grows many herbs, utilizing ingredients like pearl grass, salt-scented grass, and Changbai mountain fungus in the clay oven chicken. The clay oven chicken at Wulong Herbal Shop is called "explosive chicken" because when it is baked in the oven, the heat causes the antimicrobial paper wrapping to burst, hence the name. The explosive chicken features specially selected black-boned native chickens stuffed with Chinese herbs and rice wine, wrapped in layers of heat-resistant plastic, aluminum foil, newspaper, red clay, and wire mesh, totaling 11 layers. It is then placed in a cross-shaped clay oven, where it is slow-cooked for 4 hours with acacia wood and longan tree. Unlike regular clay oven chicken, which has less broth, the explosive chicken is tender and flavorful, with the broth combining the essence of various Chinese herbs, rice wine, and the chicken's own broth, resulting in a rich and fragrant taste.
