In Changhua County, oral history records that in 1940 (the 15th year of the Showa era), the current inheritors of Zheng Changhua Meatballs, Yang Yalan and Yang Yazhu, were influenced by their grandfather, Yang Yongxiang, who, due to his father's early passing and the numerous siblings at home, decided to seek training from a master chef in Lugang to learn the traditional snack - meatballs (Lugang dialect). After completing a tough apprenticeship, Yang Yongxiang received the master's approval and began selling on the streets with his mother, Xu Shuitao. This marked the beginning of the four-generation inheritance story of Zheng Changhua Meatballs. With a history of 82 years and passed down through four generations, Zheng Changhua Meatballs is currently operated by the fourth generation, the daughter and her husband, along with her mother. What has been passed down through the fourth generation is not only the traditional flavors but also the earnest and practical spirit of their predecessors. Even in the face of changing times and the gradual decline of traditional snacks, they embody the unique spirit of innovation and transformation of the people from this land of Taiwan. They will continue to develop new techniques and impart new flavors to the meatballs, maintaining the good taste that has been cherished for over eighty years.
