Bing Dou Traditional Shaved Ice Introduction
The #BingdouTraditionalShavedIce, a hidden gem with rich old-time flavors, is located in an alley behind the Ambassador Hotel in Hsinchu. The retro-style shop has minimal decoration, and their ice products do not follow the extravagant routes of social media photography but are instead made in the most traditional way. After all, the simplest flavors are often the most enjoyable. The walls are adorned with summer ice products, but unfortunately, during #Chengbian's visit, it was a sunny day in winter; otherwise, we would definitely have tried a bowl of the impressively named #RogueIce (Durian + Mango) and the old-school flavored Li Salted Ice, which uses preserved sour plums like those in plum wine. Biting into the salted plums reveals a crunchy, hard flesh, with a flavor that's not as overwhelmingly salty as imagined, but rather a sweet and sour combination. All the shaved ice toppings are cooked by the owner, including the syrup, ensuring you won’t feel thirsty after finishing. Whether in the hot summer or the cold winter, if you have the chance to pass through Hsinchu during the Lunar New Year, be sure to come and enjoy a bowl of nostalgic traditional shaved ice.
