Jinshi Residence Introduction

Zheng Yongxi was born in 1788 and became a jinshi (the highest degree in the imperial examinations) in 1823, making him the first person from Taiwan to achieve this status by taking the examination in the capital. He is thus referred to as the "First Jinshi from Taiwan." In 1837, Zheng Yongxi constructed a large courtyard with three sections and three main halls; unfortunately, the rear section was destroyed during World War II, leaving only the front two sections. Throughout the residence, one can see exquisite carvings and intricate craftsmanship that are truly remarkable.
