In 1923, to commemorate the visit of Crown Prince Hirohito of Japan during the Taisho era, funds were raised to establish the "Hsinchu Street Library." After its completion in 1925, it was renamed the "Hsinchu Prefectural Library" and continued to be used as a library. It is now privately owned by Shin Kong Life Insurance and is not open for public visits.
