In 1923, to commemorate the visit of Crown Prince Hirohito of Japan during the Taisho era, funds were raised to establish the "Hsinchu Street Library." It was completed in 1925 and later renamed the "Hsinchu Prefectural Library." It continued to be used as a library until it became private property of Shin Kong Life Insurance and is no longer open for public visits.
