Bulao Hot Spring Resort Introduction
Location: Situated within the New Fa Village of Liugui District, Kaohsiung, it is 14 kilometers south of Liugui and 6 kilometers north of Baolai. Turn right onto County Road 133 after 4 kilometers on Provincial Highway 27. The name "Bulao" (meaning "not old") originates from the hot springs here, as the creek water remains warm throughout the year. In the past, farmers who settled here used the hot spring water for washing and referred to the creek as "Re Shui Creek" (Hot Water Creek). Later, the villagers noticed that their skin felt smooth and rejuvenated after bathing, hence they named the creek "Bulao Creek" (Not Old Creek). Initially, hot spring operators built simple accommodations with wooden boards and directed the hot spring water for visitor baths and lodging, naming it "Bulao Hot Spring," thus establishing the reputation of "Bulao Hot Spring," the most famous place with the longest history in tourism development in Liugui District. The Bulao Hot Spring originates from the valley of the Bulao Creek, a tributary of the Laonong Creek, and is classified as a weakly alkaline sodium bicarbonate spring, with water temperatures around 44-45 degrees Celsius and a pH value of about 7.7. It contains bicarbonate ions at 1460 ppm and sodium ions at about 593 ppm, with clear, colorless, and odorless water rich in minerals. Soaking in the hot spring can relax the body and mind, stimulate the sensory nerves, accelerate metabolism, alleviate muscle pain, and improve physical mobility. Visitors can also enjoy hiking along the Bulao and Meilun Mountain trails for physical exercise.
