Happy Fishing Cultural and Creative Museum Introduction

Nanfangao Fishing Port in Su'ao Township, Yilan, has preserved traditional fishing gear and methods from the Japanese colonial period since the 1920s, infusing the local fishing culture with a distinct Japanese influence. One of the customs inherited from Japanese fishing culture is the practice of celebrating "abundant catches." In early fishing villages, friends and family would present a "big catch flag" whenever a new boat was launched, conveying blessings and mutual support among them. Therefore, at the end of 2015, the Su'ao Fishermen's Association established the "Abundant Catch Cultural and Creative Center" to continue preserving this culturally rich fishing village tradition, offering authentic local fishing culture experiences, the freshest catches, and the most genuine flavors from local mothers, allowing every visitor to embrace the spirit of "health, happiness, safety, and abundant catches." The 360-degree realistic 3D Tornado Tunnel depicts the image of Nanfangao Fishing Port and features iconic fishes such as the flying fish, mackerel, yellowfin tuna, and coral reefs. Master Tu Long, a leading 3D illusion artist from Taiwan, employs special 3D painting techniques and fluorescent paint to bring the fish in the 3D Tornado Tunnel to life, immersing visitors in this magical underwater world. The Southern 4Q project will creatively design aspects using the four most abundant local fish species, helping the public move beyond stereotypical impressions of local fish products and gain a clearer understanding of Nanfangao’s most characteristic fish varieties: - Little Mackerel: Energetic and cute, it enjoys camping and socializing with friends around a campfire at night. - Banana Sister (Swordfish): A beautiful swimmer who loves to wear extravagant clothing and attract attention, but her stunning appearance can be intimidating. - A Gui (Flying Fish): Comedic in appearance but passionate and loyal at heart, he epitomizes the modern ideal of a good man, embodying the phrase, "I may be ugly, but I'm gentle." - A Lang (Shark): Strong and powerful, he is solitary and timid, but has a keen sense of smell and electrical sensitivity, making him adept at hide-and-seek.
