Nantian Temple (Mazu) Introduction
Residents of Nanfang'ao rely on fishing for their livelihoods, enduring the hardships of life at sea and battling the raging waves. In hopes of a bountiful harvest and favorable weather, many households worship Mazu, praying for safety. Nantian Temple, completed in 1956, serves as the spiritual center of the community and a source of solace for fishermen. The first floor houses five statues of Mazu from Meizhou Island, while the second floor features an exquisite jade Mazu sculpted by Hualien stone carving masters Liu Wanzhi and Ye Shuangbao, made from an exceptionally large piece of green jade. The third floor boasts the world’s largest pure gold statue of Mazu, weighing 200 kilograms, which has brought fame to Nantian Temple and attracts many pilgrims. Visiting Nantian Temple offers not only a chance to worship but also an opportunity to feel the local people's deep reverence for Mazu.
