Nanfang'ao Nantian Temple (Goddess Mazu, Jade Mazu) Introduction
Residents of Nanfangao make a living by fishing, enduring the hardships of the sea while battling the turbulent waves. To pray for favorable weather and a bountiful harvest, many households honor Mazu, seeking peace and safety. Nantian Temple, completed in 1956, serves as a spiritual center for the community and a source of comfort for fishermen. On the first floor, there are five statues of Mazu from Meizhou Island, while the second floor features a jade Mazu carved from rare giant green jade by renowned Hualien sculptors Liu Wanzhi and Ye Shuangbao. The third floor is home to the world’s largest pure gold statue of Mazu, weighing 200 kilograms, which has established the fame of Nantian Temple and attracts many devotees. Visiting Nantian Temple offers not only the opportunity to worship and admire the temple but also to experience the locals' deep reverence for Mazu.
