Nanfangao Nan Tian Temple (Golden Mazu, Jade Mazu) Introduction
The residents of Nanfang'ao make their living through fishing, enduring the hardships of life at sea while battling the raging waves. To pray for favorable weather and abundant harvests, many families worship Mazu, seeking peace and safety. Completed in 1956, the Nantian Temple serves as the local center of faith and a spiritual refuge for fishermen. On the first floor, there are five statues of Mazu who came from Meizhou, while the second floor features a rare giant jade statue of Mazu, created by the Hualien stone carving masters Liu Wanzhi and Ye Shuangbao. The third floor houses the world's largest pure gold statue of Mazu, weighing 200 kilograms, which has earned the Nantian Temple its fame and attracted many pilgrims. Visiting Nantian Temple is not only an opportunity to worship and admire the temple but also to appreciate the local people's reverence for Mazu.
