Wufengqi Waterfall Introduction
Wufengqi Mountain is located on the west side of Jiaoxi Township in Yilan County, at the junction of the Xueshan Mountain Range and the Lanyang Plain. From a distance, the five prominent peaks stand out dramatically against the flatland, resembling the five flags on the back of a theatrical warrior. It is a well-known scenic area in Jiaoxi Township. The steep Wufengqi, with an elevation of only 500 meters, is characterized by its sharp cliffs and rugged terrain formed from very hard quartzy sandstone. There are hiking trails between the peaks that lead to the summit of a three-tier waterfall. The waterfall drops from a narrow gorge and is approximately 100 meters long, divided into three levels. The upper waterfall is about 50 meters high, cascading down from the canyon, while the middle waterfall, emanating from the cliff face, is approximately 30 meters tall, showcasing a magnificent view from the "Viewing Pavilion," where visitors can appreciate the dramatic waters and overlook the green valleys. The lower waterfall is about 20 meters, creating a small pool that is clear and pristine. It is an excellent spot to escape the summer heat and enjoy the cool spring water. The scenic area features a three-level sand retention dam, making it a great location for water play in the summer. The viewing platform for the first-level waterfall is the highest point of the Wufengqi Waterfall. The route to the summit is challenging, but upon reaching the top, the grandeur of the waterfall source comes into view, towering higher and longer than the second level. To allow visitors to get closer to the waterfall, there is a "Viewing Platform" near the waterfall, providing an impressive sight that is truly awe-inspiring, as if a waterfall is also rushing within one's heart! The viewing pavilion at the second-level waterfall is about a hundred feet long and offers a majestic sight of the middle-tier waterfall. The pavilion allows tourists to feel the powerful rush of water while absorbing the forest's phytoncides, watching the cascading waterfall flow from the rock face into the stream below, creating a misty, poetic atmosphere. When the water flow is heavy, visitors can even get splashed by the spray! The third-level waterfall is the lowest tier of the Wufengqi Waterfall and is very easy to access. Walking along the trail with fresh air, the third waterfall is just ahead! The flow of this waterfall is relatively gentle, with surrounding trees providing shade. Many visitors take off their shoes and roll up their pants to play in the water, enjoying the refreshing and comfortable temperature.
