Wufengqi Waterfall Introduction
Wufengqi Mountain is located on the western side of Jiaoxi Township in Yilan County, at the junction of the Xueshan Mountain Range and the Lanyang Plain. From a distance, the five prominent peaks rising above the flatlands are striking, resembling the five banners on the back of an actor in a drama. It is a famous scenic area in Jiaoxi Township. The steep Wuqifeng, with an elevation of only 500 meters, has a steep and rugged terrain characterized by sheer cliffs formed from very hard sandstone layers. There are hiking trails between the peaks, leading to the top of a three-tiered waterfall. This waterfall drops straight down from a narrow gorge, with a total length of about 100 meters, divided into three levels. The upper waterfall is about 50 meters high and rushes down from the gorge, creating the middle waterfall, which flows out from the mountain wall and is about 30 meters high. The majestic sight of this waterfall can be closely appreciated from the "Viewing Platform," where visitors can also enjoy a panoramic view of the lush green valley. The lower waterfall is about 20 meters high, naturally forming a small pool of clear water that flows down, providing a refreshing coolness during the hot summer months. This scenic area has three sand traps, making it a great place to play in the water during summer. **Viewing Platform - First Tier Waterfall:** The first tier of the waterfall is the uppermost level of the Wufengqi Waterfall. From the second waterfall, the path upward is more challenging, but accompanied by breathless moments, hikers reach the summit of Wufengqi. Looking up, the powerful source of the waterfall comes into view, taller and longer than the second tier. To allow visitors to get closer to the waterfall, there is a "Viewing Platform" near the falls, creating a breathtaking sight that feels as if there’s a waterfall rushing within the heart! **Viewing Pavilion - Second Tier Waterfall:** The second tier, about a hundred feet long, is the middle level of the Wufengqi Waterfall. Below the second waterfall is the "Viewing Pavilion," where visitors can watch and experience the grand momentum of the falls while absorbing the phytoncides in the mountains. Watching the endless stream of water flowing down from the sheer cliffs into the creek, surrounded by mist, brings joy and pleasure; on days of high water flow, visitors may even get splashed! **Wufeng Pavilion - Third Tier Waterfall:** The third tier of the Wufengqi Waterfall is the lowest and very easy to reach. Following the refreshing air along the path, visitors can reach the third waterfall right before their eyes! The flow of the third waterfall is gentler, and the surrounding trees provide shade. Many visitors take off their shoes and roll up their pants to enjoy the refreshing water, experiencing the most comfortable temperature.
