Wufengqi Mother of Heaven Pilgrimage Site Introduction
The Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site is located in Jiaoxi, Yilan, right above the famous Wufengqi Scenic Area. To enter the Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site, visitors must pass through the Wufengqi Waterfall, and after following the paths along the third and second level waterfalls, they will see the sign for the "Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site." Following the directions, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the site. The Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site is regarded as a sacred mountain by Catholic believers, as it is said that the Virgin Mary once appeared at the Holy Mother Pavilion, guiding five mountain climbers safely down. In gratitude to the Virgin Mary, a statue of her was built beside the pavilion. The Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site covers several hundred square meters and features a round, temple-shaped chapel with hints of Chinese design. Without the cross at the top, it may not be easily recognized as a Catholic church from the outside. Starting from the Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site, visitors can slowly walk up the mountain path, where pavilions are provided for resting along the way. Upon reaching the "Tontian Bridge," visitors will be at the starting point of the Holy Mother Mountain Trail. The area near the starting point is shaded by trees, making it impossible to see the sky, and there are small waterfalls and shallow pools, with cool stream water, making it an excellent place to play and cool off. The trail is lush with vegetation, and after completing the approximately 1.7-kilometer path, visitors will reach the picturesque "Holy Mother Villa," which offers a view of the Lanyang Plain and Turtle Island. In the morning, looking down from here, it feels as if one is amidst the clouds. Although the Holy Mother Villa is a Catholic site, many non-Catholic travelers also come to pay their respects with a grateful heart! The Holy Mother Mountain Trail: Following the path uphill, the lush forest is a rare low-altitude primitive forest! The Holy Mother Mountain Trail reaches an elevation of 1,028 meters, making it an excellent vantage point to overlook the Lanyang Plain and Turtle Island. The forest along the way is rich and diverse, and the ridge line serves as the boundary between Yilan and Taipei, as well as a meteorological divide, showcasing the incredible variety of weather that is truly breathtaking.
