Wufengqi Mazu Pilgrimage Site Introduction
The Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site is located in Jiaoxi, Yilan, specifically above the famous Wufengqi Scenic Area. To access the Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site, visitors must pass through the Wufengqi Waterfall. Following the path along the third and second tiers of the waterfall, you will see the sign for the "Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site." It takes approximately 15 minutes to reach the site by following the directions. The Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site is regarded as a holy mountain by Catholic followers, as it is said that the Virgin Mary manifested at the Holy Mother Pavilion, guiding five climbers safely down the mountain. In gratitude, a statue of the Virgin Mary was built beside the pavilion. The pilgrimage site covers an area of several hundred square meters, featuring a circular church in the shape of a heavenly altar, infused with a hint of Chinese style. Without the visible cross above, one might not easily recognize it as a Catholic church. From the Holy Mother Pilgrimage Site, visitors can slowly ascend along the mountain path, which has pavilions for rest along the way. Upon reaching the "Sky Bridge," you will find the starting point of the Holy Mother Mountain Trail. The path is shrouded in forest, blocking out the sky, and small waterfalls and shallow pools can be seen throughout, providing a refreshing spot to play in the water. The trail is lush with greenery, and after walking approximately 1.7 kilometers, you will arrive at the picturesque "Holy Mother Villa," which offers a panoramic view of the Lanyang Plain and Turtle Island. In the morning, looking down from here feels like being on cloud nine. Although the Holy Mother Villa is Catholic, many non-Catholic travelers also come to pilgrimage with a heart of gratitude! The Holy Mother Mountain Trail climbs steadily uphill, surrounded by dense forest, representing a rare low-elevation primary forest! The trail reaches an altitude of 1,028 meters, offering an excellent vantage point to view the Lanyang Plain and Turtle Island. The lush scenery and rich vegetation along the way create a breathtaking experience, marking the boundary between Yilan and Taipei, as well as a weather divide, with ever-changing conditions that amaze visitors.
