Nantou Creative Park Introduction
Transformed from a paper factory into a cultural and creative park, the Chung Hsing Paper Factory, established in 1935, transitioned from the Taiwan Industrial Company during the Japanese occupation to a state-owned enterprise after the Kuomintang took control. At its peak, it was not only the largest paper factory in Taiwan but also the top producer in Southeast Asia. The factory ceased operations in 2001, resulting in a 13-year hiatus for the park. In 2014, the Yilan County Government took over, initiating revitalization strategies through the preservation and activation of industrial heritage, launching cultural and creative applications, and nurturing grassroots developments, thus opening up new opportunities for the rebirth of the old factory. Yilan's Self-Created Micro Cultural and Creative Incubation Base, characterized by industrial heritage and historical buildings, the "Chung Hsing Cultural and Creative Park" boasts rich narratives of local culture and history. The park has developed through different spatial stages, initially focusing on talent incubation, industry support, and co-creation in the "Cultural and Creative Zone 1." Through the brand spirit of "Yilan's Self-Creation," it continues to launch annual special exhibitions, film, and music promotion courses, guided tours of abandoned factory sites, artistic co-creation events, and more. Visitors can not only stroll and experience the unique historical ambiance of the park but also engage in various activities to reconnect and deeply experience the cultural creativity and artistic self-creation "driving force" from the heart! Gathering Creative Energy - Local and International Exchange Platform The transformation of the old factory into a cultural and creative park not only marks a new milestone for Yilan's cultural and creative industries but will also develop into a platform for experimental self-creation, aesthetic lifestyle education, and entrepreneurship support through public, private, and academic collaboration. By fostering local connections and international perspectives for co-creation, it aims to cultivate and leverage the creative cluster effects, encourage outstanding local talent to return, and attract more creative individuals to stay in Yilan, gradually consolidating local creative energy and jointly building the "prosperous" future of cultural creativity.
