Yilan Sports Park Introduction
Yilan Sports Park, located in Yilan City, directly adjacent to Provincial Highway No. 9, covers an area of approximately 27 hectares. It is a fully open recreational space that combines leisure and sports, featuring a humanistic design without walls that continues the spirit of the County Cultural Center. It is the first of its kind in Taiwan to promote the trend of sports facilities being designed as parks. The Taiwan Regional Sports Meet was held here in 1992. Visitors can enter the park from any point, but all vehicles, except bicycles, are strictly regulated. The park's landscaping showcases different seasonal beauty: when the kapok flowers bloom bright red at the treetops, summer is on its way; the Taiwan acacia shows off its tender yellow flower clusters, heralding autumn; as the flamboyant violet flowers cover the ground, people know winter is approaching; and during spring, when flowers are in full bloom, the park is lively with floral representations. On weekdays, families can enjoy the beauty of the park while admiring unique flowers, walking, biking, or flying kites. The park also serves as a venue for various sports competitions, where beautiful scenery can surely lead to excellent results. For tourists traveling from other counties and cities, Yilan Sports Park is a great place to rest and relax amidst the long sightseeing journey, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the fragrant flowers and bird songs under the blue sky and white clouds, while also stretching their limbs and experiencing the “symphony of green and power” in the Lanyang Plain. With its well-designed facilities, people of all ages and genders can find their own space here. While this is a popular spot for leisure sports on weekdays, it becomes even more crowded on weekends and holidays. However, the mess created by vendors accompanying the crowds has become a concern for the park, as having a beautiful sports park is a shared blessing for the community.
