Luodong Forestry Culture Park Introduction
During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan had three major lumberyards: Baxianshan Lumberyard, Alishan Lumberyard, and Taiping Mountain Lumberyard. The cypress and cedar lumber cut from Taiping Mountain Lumberyard were transported to Luodong Branch Office and log ponds for storage. After being planned, the Luodong Branch Office became the present-day Luodong Forestry Culture Park. Luodong Forestry Cultural Area is located near the city center of Luodong, with very convenient transportation. The park is equipped with log ponds, forest railways, a bamboo forest station, a steam locomotive, green forests, and walking paths. From these facilities and buildings, one can see how prosperous and lively the forestry industry was back in the day, and it also evokes sentiments about the many precious cypress trees that vanished in Taiping Mountain. With the transformation of the forestry industry, the once glorious log ponds now display scattered cypress timber that was cut back then. Today, the log ponds no longer serve the function of storing lumber; instead, they have become a paradise for water birds and fish. Walking in the park feels like entering a secret garden, filled with dense trees and accompanied by the occasional chirping of birds. The air is enriched with phytoncides and a faint scent of cypress, creating a pleasant environment that makes one involuntarily pause and feel a sense of inner peace.
