Luodong Forestry Culture Park Introduction

During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan had three major forest farms: Baixianshan Forest Farm, Alishan Forest Farm, and Taiping Mountain Forest Farm. The cypress and cedar timber harvested from Taiping Mountain Forest Farm were transported to the Luodong Branch Office and timber storage ponds for storage. After planning, the Luodong Branch Office became the present-day Luodong Forestry Culture Park. The Luodong Forestry Culture Park is located near the city center of Luodong, with very convenient transportation. The park features timber storage ponds, forest railways, bamboo forest stations, steam locomotives, lush greenery, and hiking trails. From these facilities and buildings, one can observe the thriving forestry development of that time, which was bustling and lively, while also lamenting the many precious cypress trees that have vanished in Taiping Mountain. With the transformation of the forestry industry, the once glorious timber storage ponds now lay scattered with the cypress timber that was harvested back then. Today, the timber storage ponds no longer serve their original function but have become a paradise for water birds and fish. Walking through the park feels like entering a secret garden, where dense trees are planted throughout, and the sounds of birds can be heard from time to time. The air carries the scent of phytoncides and a faint hint of cypress wood. In this cozy environment, one cannot help but stop and feel a sense of inner peace.
