Luodong Forestry Culture Park Introduction
During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan had three major timber factories: the Basyan Mountain Forest Station, the Alishan Forest Station, and the Taiping Mountain Forest Station. The cedar and cypress timber cut from the Taiping Mountain Forest Station were transported to the Luodong Branch Office and timber storage pond for storage. After planning, the Luodong Branch Office became what is now the Luodong Forestry Culture Park. The Luodong Forestry Culture Park is located near the city of Luodong, making it very accessible. The park features a timber storage pond, forest railway, bamboo forest station, steam locomotive, and walking trails. These facilities and buildings reveal how vibrant and bustling the forestry industry once was, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the many precious cedar trees that have vanished in the Taiping Mountains. With the transformation of the forestry development, the once-grand timber storage pond now scattered with the cut cedar has lost its function and has become a paradise for water birds and fish. Walking in the park feels like entering a secret garden, filled with dense trees, the sound of birds chirping occasionally, and the air carrying phytoncide and a faint aroma of cedar, creating a comfortable environment that makes one stop and appreciate the inner tranquility.
