Yilan Museum of Literature Introduction
Located in the city of Yilan, the Yilan Memorial Hall of Governance was built by the prefectural chief Kyujiro Nishiyama during the Japanese colonial period. Originally the residence of the administrative heads of Yilan County, this hall mainly presents the historical development of governance in Yilan. After being planned and restored by experts and craftsmen in 1997, it was opened to the public. Visiting the Yilan Memorial Hall of Governance feels like stepping into another world, where time seems to stand still in the Japanese colonial period. The old trees sway in the wind, and this place retains Japanese wooden houses, Western classical architecture, and a tranquil and elegant Japanese garden. As you push open the door to the main exhibition room, the air carries a faint scent of cypress, as the residence was built using cypress wood from the Taiping Mountain in Yilan. This is a historical space worth slowing down your pace to explore in detail. Next to the Yilan Memorial Hall of Governance is the Yilan Literary Museum. After visiting the memorial hall, you might want to feel the cultural atmosphere at the literary museum and enjoy the rare tranquility found in the bustling city.
