Yilan Government Memorial Hall Introduction
Located in the city of Yilan, the Yilan Memorial Hall was established by Jukichi Nishiyama, the governor of Yilan during the Japanese colonial period. It originally served as the official residence for the administrative heads of Yilan County and primarily showcases the historical development of governance in Yilan. In 1997, after expert planning and restoration, it was opened to the public. Visiting the Yilan Memorial Hall feels like stepping into another world, where time seems to stand still in the era of Japanese rule. The old trees sway gently in the breeze, and the site retains traditional wooden Japanese houses, Western classical architecture, and a tranquil, elegant Japanese garden. Upon entering the main exhibition hall, the air carries a faint aroma of cypress wood, as the residence was built using cypress from Taiping Mountain in Yilan. This space invites you to slow down and explore its historical significance. Next to the Yilan Memorial Hall is the Yilan Literary Museum, where you can experience the cultural atmosphere and enjoy a rare moment of tranquility amid the bustling city after visiting the memorial hall.
