Yilan County Government Memorial Hall Introduction
The Yi Lan Memorial Museum, located in the urban area of Yilan, was established by the governor of Yilan during the Japanese colonial period, Kijujiro Nishikawa. It was originally the official residence of the administrative heads of Yilan County and mainly showcases the historical development of governance in Yilan. After planning and restoration by experts and craftsmen in 1997, it was reopened to the public for visits. Entering the Yi Lan Memorial Museum is like stepping into another world, where time seems to stand still in the Japanese colonial era. Old trees sway in the breeze, and the place retains Japanese wooden houses, classical Western architecture, and a serene and elegant Japanese garden. Pushing open the door to the main exhibition room, the air carries a faint scent of cypress wood, which is due to the use of cypress from the Taipingshan area of Yilan for the construction of the residence at that time. This is a historical space worth slowing down and exploring. Next to the Yi Lan Memorial Museum is the Yi Lan Literary Museum. After visiting the memorial museum, feel free to head to the literary museum to experience the humanistic atmosphere and enjoy the rare tranquility found in the bustling urban area.
