Established in 1990, it is the first museum established in Yilan County and the first public local museum in Taiwan. It aims to collect materials on the development of Taiwanese drama and to investigate, collect, organize, and promote Taiwan's traditional folk theater. Yilan is the only hometown of the indigenous opera genre Gezaixi in Taiwan, further enhancing the representation of this museum.
