Established in 1990, it is the first museum established in Yilan County and the first public local museum in Taiwan. It aims to collect information on the development of Taiwanese drama and to investigate, collect, organize, and promote traditional folk theater in Taiwan. Yilan is the original hometown of Gezaixi, the only indigenous theater genre in Taiwan, which enhances the representativeness of this museum.
