Chilan Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Qilan Forest Recreation Area is located in Tuchang Village, Datong Township, about 38 kilometers from Yilan City, and is a must-visit place en route to Taiping Mountain and Lishan. The area features facilities such as the former president Chiang Kai-shek's villa, a flower and plant viewing area, and forest bathing trails. The European-style Qilan Villa and cabins provide a comfortable accommodation environment for travelers. The recreation area is lush with flowers and trees, featuring plum, peach, and cherry blossoms planted along the trails, which bloom seasonally, adding vibrant colors and a romantic atmosphere to the area. Especially in spring, the cherry blossoms attract many visitors for cherry blossom viewing. The Sacred Tree Garden within Qilan Forest Recreation Area is the largest gathering of giant trees in Taiwan and is well worth a visit. Each tree is over 400 years old and is named after famous figures from ancient Chinese history based on their age. Among the 51 giant trees, aside from the four cedars named after Zheng Chenggong, Zhu Xi, Guan Yu, and Yue Fei, the others are all red cypress. In addition to flower viewing and exploring the Sacred Tree Garden, don't forget to taste the local specialty, lion's mane mushroom, during your visit to Qilan Forest Recreation Area to make your trip worthwhile.
