Qilan Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Qilan Forest Recreation Area is located in Tuchang Village, Datong Township, approximately 38 kilometers from Yilan City. It is a must-pass destination for those traveling to Taiping Mountain and Lishan. The area features attractions such as the former residence of President Chiang Kai-shek, a flower and tree viewing area, and forest bathing trails. The European-style Qilan Mountain Villa and woodland cabins provide a comfortable accommodation environment for visitors. The recreation area is rich in flora, with plum, cherry, apricot, peach, and mountain cherry trees planted along the paths, blooming with color throughout the seasons, adding a romantic ambiance. Especially in spring, the cherry blossoms attract many visitors to enjoy the scenery. The Sacred Tree Garden in Qilan Forest Recreation Area is home to the largest cluster of giant trees in Taiwan, making it well worth a visit. Each tree is over 400 years old and named after famous figures from ancient Chinese history based on their age. Among the 51 giant trees, four are Taiwan cedar, named after Zheng Chenggong, Zhu Xi, Guan Yu, and Yue Fei, while the rest are red cypress. In addition to enjoying the flowers and exploring the Sacred Tree Garden, don't forget to taste the local specialty, lion's mane mushroom, to make the trip truly worthwhile.
