Central Taiwan Environmental Resources Education Center Introduction
The Central Taiwan Resource Recycling Plant No. 2, located in the Taoyuan Environmental Technology Park, specializes in the recycling of waste lighting fixtures and the disposal of mercury-containing waste. It advocates the idea of "turning waste into gold." In 2014, it established an Environmental Resource Education Center certified by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, promoting resource recycling and reuse. Currently, it welcomes visits from various organizations, colleges and universities, local communities, and international guests, allowing Taiwan's leading green technology to gain recognition worldwide while working together to contribute to the planet. Central Taiwan Resource Recycling Plant No. 2 has developed its own advanced technology for the disassembly and recycling of waste lighting sources, with a unique capability to convert 95% of waste into usable resources. The treated mercury waste has achieved high purity and recovery rates. Additionally, it uses waste glass processing technology to produce recycled glass resources, effectively reducing resource wastage. The Environmental Resource Education Center currently offers two guided courses: Course One, "The Light Tubes Above: Mercury Pollution in the Environment," is a two-hour session that provides an in-depth understanding of mercury pollution and its health impacts, while learning proactive ways to avoid mercury contamination. Course Two, "Turning Waste into Treasure: Recycling Waste Tubes and Glass," teaches the correct concepts of waste sorting and encourages finding reusable resources within garbage, transforming trash into artistic creations with creativity. At the end of the course, participants are invited to unleash their imagination by engaging in DIY creative glass art, specifically using recycled glass materials from the plant, putting the concept of environmental protection into action. This unique handcrafted souvenir leaves a meaningful memory for the visit.
