Central Taiwan Environmental Resources Education Center Introduction
The Zhongtai Resource Technology Plant No. 2, located in the Taoyuan Environmental Technology Park, specializes in the recycling of waste lighting fixtures and the treatment of hazardous mercury waste, promoting the concept of "turning waste into gold." In 2014, it established an Environmental Resource Education Center certified by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, vigorously promoting resource recycling and reuse. Currently, it is open to various organizations, universities, neighborhoods, and also welcomes international visitors, allowing Taiwan’s leading green technology to gain recognition abroad and work together to contribute to the protection of the Earth. Zhongtai Resource Technology Plant No. 2 boasts self-developed, world-leading technology for the dismantling and recovery of waste lighting sources, with a major feature being its ability to convert 95% of waste into usable resources. The treated hazardous mercury waste also attains high purity and recycling rates. In addition, the facility employs waste glass processing technology to manufacture recycled glass resources, effectively reducing resource waste. Currently, the Environmental Resource Education Center offers two guided courses: Course 1, "There are Light Tubes Three Feet Above Your Head - Mercury Pollution in the Environment and Its Effects," is a two-hour class that delves into mercury pollution, its health impacts, and ways to proactively avoid it. Course 2, "Turning Waste into Treasure - Recycling Waste Tubes and Waste Glass," teaches correct concepts of waste classification, discovering reusable resources from garbage piles, and adding creativity to transform waste into art pieces. At the conclusion of the course, participants are invited to unleash their imagination and engage in creative DIY glass art projects, using recycled glass materials from the plant, thus putting the concept of environmental protection into action. This unique handmade souvenir leaves a meaningful memory of the visit.
