Central Taiwan Environmental Resources Education Center Introduction
Located in the Taoyuan Environmental Science and Technology Park, the Zhongtai Resource Technology Plant No. 2 specializes in the recycling of waste lighting fixtures and the handling of mercury-containing waste, promoting the idea of "turning waste into gold." Established in 2014, the Environmental Resource Education Center was certified by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, actively promoting resource recycling and reuse. Currently, it is open to various government agencies, universities, local communities, and welcomes international visitors, helping Taiwan's leading green technology gain recognition worldwide while working together to care for the Earth. Zhongtai Resource Technology Plant No. 2 boasts self-developed, world-leading recycling and dismantling technology for waste lighting sources, with a key feature of converting 95% of waste into usable resources. The processed waste mercury also achieves high purity and recovery rates. Moreover, the plant utilizes waste glass processing technology to manufacture recycled glass resources, effectively reducing resource waste. The Zhongtai Environmental Resource Education Center offers two guided courses: Course One, "The Mercury Lamps Above Us – Mercury Pollution in the Environment and Its Impact," is a two-hour session that delves into mercury pollution and its health effects, teaching participants how to actively avoid mercury contamination. Course Two, "Turning Waste into Treasure – Resource Recovery from Waste Lamps and Glass," teaches proper waste classification concepts and how to discover reusable resources from trash, transforming waste into artwork with creativity. At the end of the course, participants are invited to unleash their imagination and engage in a DIY glass art project using recycled glass materials from the plant, actively practicing environmental concepts. This unique handmade souvenir leaves a meaningful memory of the visit.
