Central Taiwan Environmental Resources Education Center Introduction
Located in the Taoyuan Environmental Technology Park, the Central Taiwan Resource Technology Second Plant specializes in the recycling of waste lighting equipment and the treatment of hazardous waste containing mercury. It advocates the concept of "turning waste into gold." In 2014, it was certified by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan as an Environmental Resource Education Center, actively promoting resource recycling and reuse. Currently, it is open to various government agencies, universities, neighborhood communities, and welcomes foreign visitors, showcasing Taiwan's leading green technology globally and working together to help protect the Earth. The Central Taiwan Resource Technology Second Plant has independently developed world-leading recycling and dismantling technology for waste lighting sources, which can convert 95% of waste into usable resources, with processed mercury waste having high purity and recovery rates. In addition, using waste glass treatment technology to produce recycled glass effectively reduces resource waste. The Environmental Resource Education Center offers two guided courses: Course One, "Three Feet Overhead: Mercury Pollution and Its Impact on the Environment," is a two-hour lecture that delves into mercury pollution, its health effects, and ways to actively avoid mercury contamination. Course Two, "Turning Waste into Treasure: Recycling Waste Lamps and Glass," teaches the correct concepts of garbage classification, discovering reusable resources within waste heaps, and transforming trash into artwork with creativity. At the end of the course, participants are invited to unleash their imagination and engage in DIY creative glass art, especially using the recycled glass materials from the plant, practicing the concept of environmental protection. This unique handmade souvenir provides a meaningful memory of the visit.
