Central Taiwan Environmental Resources Education Center Introduction
Located in the Taoyuan Environmental Science and Technology Park, the Zhongtai Resource Technology Phase II Plant specializes in the recycling of waste lighting fixtures and the treatment of mercury-containing waste, promoting the concept of "turning waste into gold." In 2014, it established an Environmental Resource Education Center recognized by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, actively promoting resource recycling and reuse. Currently, it welcomes visits from various government agencies, universities, local communities, and international guests, allowing Taiwan's leading green technology to gain recognition abroad and join hands in contributing to the protection of the Earth. The Zhongtai Resource Technology Phase II Plant boasts independently developed and world-leading techniques for recycling and dismantling waste lighting sources, with a key feature that converts 95% of waste into usable resources. The treated waste mercury also achieves high purity and recovery rates. Additionally, it employs waste glass treatment technology to manufacture recycled glass, effectively reducing resource waste. The Environmental Resource Education Center offers two guided courses: Course One, "There Are Tubes Above Your Head – Mercury Pollution and Its Impact," lasts two hours and explores mercury pollution, its health effects, and proactive ways to avoid mercury contamination. Course Two, "Turning Waste into Treasure – Recycling of Waste Tubes and Glass," teaches correct waste classification concepts and how to identify reusable resources from trash, transforming them into artworks with creativity. At the end of the course, participants are invited to unleash their imagination through creative DIY glass art, utilizing recycled glass materials from the plant to practically apply environmental concepts. This unique handcrafted souvenir also leaves a significant memory from the visit.
