Hi Look Design Studio Introduction
Walking into Zhongzheng Road in the small town of Kuan-Hsi, you are greeted by rows of traditional old shophouses. Standing on the arcade and looking towards the curved archway, it feels like stepping into a time tunnel, with every brick and tile bearing the marks of time. Zhongzheng Road, also known as Shidianzih, has a ferry terminal that used to be a hub for merchants transporting goods and daily supplies. The Shidianzih old street was once a bustling center, filled with fabric shops, stone working, and blacksmiths, but as industries changed, locals gradually left, and the vibrant scene faded away. Local youth Qiu Meifeng has established the Hi Look graphic design studio, infusing daily life creativity into the workspace where old and new coexist. She creates fresh ideas through layers of display racks and nostalgic styles of the old house. Originally, Hi Look was an old video rental store, and remnants of old cabinets remain in the attic. The studio's walls still display traces of newspapers from the 30s of the Republic of China, juxtaposed with the illustrated works designed by the current owner and maps featuring local specialties, creating an interesting contrast. Currently, this space primarily serves as the owner’s studio, and in the future, it will offer cultural and creative products. The public is also welcomed to visit the old house and pick up a creative publication and map unique to Kuan-Hsi, to better understand this charming little town.
