Nanpu Aqueduct Introduction
Nanpu Water Channel is located in Nanpu Village and is the only century-old bamboo-tube waterwheel in Hsinchu County that is still in operation. Its main function is to irrigate farmland and provide important living water for local residents. The century-old irrigation channel, developed by Jiang Shaozu, has excavated twenty-one tunnels to divert water, irrigating sixty hectares of rice paddies in Nanpu. Due to sedimentation, it lost its vitality, and the residents of the Nanpu community united in their decision to fallow the land for a year to repair the water channel. During the maintenance, four elders, averaging seventy-five years old, utilized their past mining experience to help, clearing years of accumulated silt from the tunnels, thereby restoring the water flow and becoming the best example of rural revitalization.
