Deng Nan-Guang Memorial Hall Introduction
The Deng Nan-Guang Image Memorial Hall is a nearly hundred-year-old Western-style house that retains the layout of early medical consultation rooms. The hall provides a detailed introduction to the life story and photographic works of Mr. Deng Teng-Hui, as well as displaying antique-level large cameras, all of which are precious assets left by Taiwan's history. Deng Nan-Guang, whose real name was Deng Teng-Hui, was born in 1907 in Beipu Township, Hsinchu. He founded the Taiwan Photography Culture Association and dedicated his life to documenting, leaving behind invaluable assets for the history of Taiwan and Beipu. During the Japanese colonial period, Deng Nan-Guang began to engage in photography while studying economics at Hosei University in Japan, primarily focusing on realism. After returning to Taiwan, he made photography his profession and before the age of 30, he had traveled throughout the island, leaving behind nearly 6,000 negatives. Deng Nan-Guang's work covers a wide range of themes, including salons, portraits, stages, still life, landscapes, sketches, and documentary styles, creating tens of thousands of images across a 40-year span of visual language. It wasn't until 1971, after Deng Nan-Guang passed away, that this rich creative journey came to an end.
