Daxue Mountain National Forest Recreation Area Introduction

The vibrant red of the red maple in autumn, the starry skies of summer nights, the evening sea of clouds, the deer weaving through the forest paths, the imperial pheasant, and the only accessible giant red cypress tree in Greater Taichung - the Xueshan Sacred Tree - create the most enchanting impression of the Dasyueshan National Forest Recreation Area. This area was once the Dasyueshan Logging Area established in 1958, which flourished in Dongshi and Fengyuan. Today, this mountain town, which is just an hour away from Dongshi, has become a forest recreation area, continuing to bring the blessings of nature to the people of Central Taiwan. With an elevation of over 2000 meters, the cool climate here preserves the original giant cypress forest along the Xiaoshengmu Trail and the wooden horse path, which are among the most beautiful sights in the recreation area. Deep within the area, the Xueshan Sacred Tree, standing at 50 meters tall, is known to have once been the 11th largest giant tree in Taiwan! Wildlife is the greatest treasure of Dasyueshan: the muntjac, the Formosan serow, and the white-faced flying squirrel light up the nights, while during the day, the imperial pheasant, the blue-eared pheasant, and the crested honey buzzard frolic around; strolling through the forest and enjoying the soothing forest bath, you may easily encounter these little stars!
