Caoling Historic Trail Introduction

Tsao Ling Historic Trail is located at the boundary between Toucheng Township, Yilan County, and Gongliao District, New Taipei City. The trail is approximately 8.5 kilometers long, with its endpoints being the Dali Tiangong Temple in Yilan and Yuanwang Kengkou in New Taipei. It is a remnant of the Dalan Ancient Road Northern Route from the Qing Dynasty and is one of the best-preserved ancient roads from that era in Taiwan. The Tsao Ling Historic Trail was not only the main official road connecting the Taipei Basin to the Lanyang Plain but also an important artery for transportation, economy, and cultural exchange in the region. Today, the trail is managed by the Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area and retains valuable historical remnants along the way, becoming a popular hiking route.
