Beipu Zhongshu Hall Introduction

Zhongshu Hall was built in 1922 and is the residence of the first scholar of Beipu during the Qing Dynasty. The strength and beauty of traditional architecture are fully presented, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Beipu. This architectural blend of Eastern and Western styles features a beautiful Baroque-style archway beside the entrance, whose unique shape is hard to overlook. The interior is a traditional Sanheyuan (three-in-one courtyard house), with exquisite craftsmanship evident in the exterior walls, roof ridges, and beams. It is a highly representative scholarly residence of that era. The craftsmanship of the plaster work is particularly remarkable, with delicate decorative techniques reflecting the beauty of traditional artisanship while integrating both Eastern and Western styles, resulting in a more diverse and rich architectural appearance. Its preservation and revitalization not only continue the spirit of traditional architecture in Beipu but also provide a valuable historical space for local cultural development. Zhongshu Hall is not only an exquisite traditional Hakka residence but also an important representation of the cultural heritage of the Beipu community.
