Amis Folklore Center Introduction
The Amis Folk Center was completed in November 1995, designed based on the drawings of the Japanese architectural educator Chijiwa Yasutarō from the Japanese colonial period, and modeled after the priests' residence of the Tawbalu community in Hualien County. The wooden carvings on the beams and pillars feature totems unique to the Amis tribe of the Tawbalu branch. The Amis are the main ethnic group in Chengkung Township, having settled here as early as the Qing Dynasty, forming a community, and the old name of Chengkung Township, "Malu-lou," comes from the Amis language.
