Donghe Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
The Donghe Bridge Recreation Area, located at the estuary of the Mawu River, is an important hub connecting Chenggong Township and Donghe Township in Taitung, and it is a must-visit spot along the East Coast route. The old and new Donghe Bridges span the river, one ancient and one modern, one gray and one red, each with its own distinctive style. The old bridge, built in 1930, features a design that cleverly integrates arch and water frame, harmoniously combining with the landscape and the giant boulders in the river, and has been listed as one of the "Top 100 Historical Buildings in Taiwan." The new bridge has a vivid red steel arch shape, simplistic and sleek, reflecting a strong modernity. The old bridge has been closed to traffic and transformed into a space for walking and enjoying the scenery. Strolling on the bridge allows for distant views of the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountain Range, while overlooking the clear green waters of the Mawu River, adorned with large stones, set against the magnificent mountain scenery of Taiyuan Valley. Surrounded by mountains and accompanied by a gentle breeze, one can become immersed in the tranquility and harmony of nature. For a closer experience of this beautiful landscape, one can participate in the Amis people’s traditional bamboo raft experience. The bamboo raft, woven from bamboo, wood, and rattan, gently navigates through the clear stream and mica stones, allowing you to step into a picturesque landscape painting.
