Donghe Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
The Donghe Bridge Recreational Area, located at the estuary of the Mawu River, is an important junction connecting Chenggong Township and Donghe Township in Taitung, making it a must-visit spot on the East Coast journey. The old and new Donghe Bridges, spanning the river, showcase distinct styles: one ancient and one modern, one gray and one red. The old bridge, built in 1930, features an arch design that cleverly integrates the terrain and the giant rocks in the river, and it has been designated as one of the "Hundred Historical Buildings of Taiwan"; the new bridge is a vivid red steel arch structure, sleek and full of modernity. The old bridge has now been closed to traffic and transformed into a space for walking and enjoying the scenery. Strolling on the bridge, visitors can gaze out at the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal Mountain Range, overlook the turquoise waters of the Mawu River, with giant rocks scattered within, all framing the stunning mountain views of Taiyuan Valley. Surrounded by mountains, with a gentle breeze, one can immerse oneself in the tranquility and harmony of nature. For those who want to get closer to this picturesque landscape, participating in the Amis people’s traditional bamboo raft experience is recommended. The bamboo raft, woven from bamboo, wood, and rattan, glides slowly through the clear stream and mica stones, allowing you to step into a landscape painting.
