Tengxian Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Road, spanning the deep and steep Mawu Gorge. During the Japanese colonial period, it was also known as "Shengxian Gorge," and a cable suspension bridge for ox carts was built as the predecessor of Dengxian Bridge, which served as the only transportation route to and from the Taiyuan Basin. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreational Area lies an old Dengxian Bridge, completed and opened to traffic in 1953. However, after the completion of the new bridge, the old one was preserved and planned as a scenic bridge, featuring observation decks, parking lots, guardrails, and pathways within the recreational area. Both the Dengxian Bridge Recreational Area and Taiyuan Gorge are frequented by groups of Formosan macaques, which forage and are often seen wandering onto the bridge and railings, allowing visitors to observe them playing. Standing on the bridge, the clear waters of Mawu River flow beneath, and the spectacular gorge is flanked by lush, green vegetation. Visitors can enjoy scenic views, watch monkeys, and purchase delicious agricultural products cultivated in the pure mountain environment, as well as taste authentic dishes made by the local tribe. A little reminder: when observing monkeys, it is advisable to maintain a safe distance and avoid bringing food, as it may attract monkeys and lead to accidental conflicts. If the monkey group shows aggressive behavior, please move away quickly, and be particularly cautious while taking photos.
