Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawuku Canyon. During the Japanese colonial period, it was also known as "Shengxian Gorge," and a cable suspension bridge was built to accommodate bullock carts, which was the predecessor of Dengxian Bridge and the only access route for the Taiyuan Basin. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area, there is an old Dengxian Bridge, completed in 1953. After the new bridge was completed, the old one was preserved and planned as a scenic bridge, featuring viewpoints, parking lots, guardrails, and walking paths in the recreation area. Both the Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area and Taiyuan Gorge are frequented by groups of Formosan macaques, foraging among the trees and often wandering onto the bridge and railings, where visitors can observe them playing. Standing on the bridge, the clear waters of Mawuku Creek flow beneath, surrounded by lush green vegetation on both sides of the spectacular canyon. Visitors can enjoy the stunning scenery, watch monkeys, and purchase delicious agricultural products nurtured in the pure mountain environment while tasting authentic dishes made by the local tribe. A small reminder: when observing monkeys, it is advisable to maintain a safe distance from the groups and not to bring food, as this may attract them and lead to incidents and conflicts. If the monkey group exhibits aggressive behavior, please distance yourself quickly, and be especially cautious when taking photos.
