Teng Hsien Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
The Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawukuxi Gorge. This location was known as "Shengxian Gorge" during the Japanese colonial period, featuring an iron cable suspension bridge that allowed bullock carts to pass—this was the predecessor of the current Dengxian Bridge and served as the only access road to the Taiyuan Basin. Next to the modern Dengxian Bridge recreational area, there is an old Dengxian Bridge, which was completed in 1953 and still stands after the new bridge was built. It has been preserved and planned as a scenic bridge, complete with viewpoints, parking areas, guardrails, and walking paths. The Dengxian Bridge recreational area and Taiyuan Gorge both host groups of Formosan macaques that can be seen foraging among the trees. They often wander onto the bridge and railings, allowing visitors to observe them playfully interacting. Standing on the bridge, you can see the clear water of the Mawukuxi Creek flowing underneath, while the stunning canyon is flanked by lush green vegetation. You can continue on to Taiyuan Gorge and Taiyuan Village to enjoy the scenery and monkeys, as well as purchase delicious agricultural products nurtured from the pure mountains and taste authentic dishes made by the local tribespeople. A small reminder: when observing the monkeys, it's recommended to maintain a safe distance from the groups and avoid bringing food, as this may attract them and lead to potential accidents or conflicts. If the monkeys display aggressive behavior, please move away quickly and be particularly cautious while taking photos.
