Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawu Creek Gorge. During the Japanese rule period, this place was also known as "Shengxian Gorge," and a suspension bridge was built for bullock carts, serving as the predecessor of Dengxian Bridge and the only transportation route to the outside of Taiyuan Basin. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area, there is an old Dengxian Bridge, completed in 1953; after the new bridge was completed, it was preserved and planned as a scenic bridge, featuring viewing platforms, parking lots, railings, and walking paths. Both the Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area and Taiyuan Gorge are frequented by groups of Formosan macaques, which forage between the trees and often stroll onto the bridge and railings, allowing visitors to observe them at play. Standing on the bridge, the clear waters of Mawu Creek flow beneath, and the stunning gorge is flanked by lush green vegetation. Visitors can enjoy the scenery and monkeys while exploring Taiyuan Gorge and Taiyuan Village, where they can purchase delicious agricultural products grown in the pristine mountains and taste local dishes made by the villagers. A small reminder: when observing the monkeys, it is advised to maintain a safe distance from the groups and not to bring food, as this may attract them and lead to unexpected conflicts. If the monkey group displays aggressive behavior, please leave the area promptly and exercise caution while taking photos.
