Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
Dengxian Bridge is located on the south side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawu Valley. During the Japanese rule, it was also known as "Shengxian Gorge," and it features an iron cable suspension bridge that allowed ox carts to pass, serving as the predecessor to Dengxian Bridge and the only transportation route connecting the Taiyuan Basin to the outside world. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreational Area, there is an old Dengxian Bridge that was completed in 1953. After the new bridge was finished, the old bridge was preserved and planned as a scenic bridge, with observation decks, parking lots, guardrails, and walking paths in the recreational area. The Dengxian Bridge Recreational Area and the Taiyuan Gorge are home to many Formosan macaques, which forage in the forests and often stroll onto the bridge and railings, allowing visitors to observe them play. Standing on the bridge, the clear waters of Mawu River flow beneath, and the impressive canyon is flanked by lush greenery. Visitors can also explore Taiyuan Gorge and Taiyuan Village, enjoying the scenery and monkeys, and purchasing delicious agricultural products grown in the pure mountain area, as well as tasting authentic dishes made by the villagers. A small reminder: when observing the monkeys, it is recommended to keep a safe distance and not to bring food, as this may attract the monkeys and lead to incidents or conflicts. If the monkey group shows aggressive behavior, please move away quickly and be especially cautious while taking photos.
