Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area Introduction
Dengxian Bridge is located on the southern side of Dongfu Highway, spanning the deep and steep Mawukou Valley. This area was also known as "Shengxian Gorge" during the Japanese colonial period and features an iron cable suspension bridge that was originally built for ox carts, serving as the precursor to Dengxian Bridge and the only transportation route for the Taiyuan Basin. Next to the current Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area, there is an old Dengxian Bridge, completed in 1953. After the new bridge was finished, this old bridge was preserved and developed as a scenic bridge, which includes viewing platforms, parking lots, guardrails, and walking paths. The Dengxian Bridge Recreation Area and the Taiyuan Valley are frequented by groups of Formosan macaques, which forage among the trees and often wander onto the bridge and railings, allowing visitors to observe them play. Standing on the bridge, the clear waters of the Mawukou Stream flow beneath, and the spectacular gorge is flanked by lush green vegetation. Visitors can enjoy a stroll along the Taiyuan Valley and Taiyuan Tribe, taking in the scenery, observing the monkeys, and purchasing delicious agricultural products cultivated in the pure mountain environment, as well as tasting authentic dishes prepared by the tribe members. A small reminder: when observing the monkeys, it is advisable to maintain a safe distance from the monkey groups and not to bring any food, as this may attract them and lead to unexpected conflicts. If the monkey group shows aggressive behavior, please move away quickly and be especially cautious when taking photos.
