Qiqi Highland Introduction
Qiqi Ridge, once a military fortress, is a place that very few tourists visit. Although it is not very high, the scenery is breathtaking, offering a 360-degree view of the mountains and the sea, as well as a great outlook over the urban area. Named Qiqi Ridge due to its altitude of 77 meters, it was previously a controlled area for stationed troops. The trail features old bunkers and abandoned military camp walls, adding an adventurous touch, yet accompanied by the sounds of birds, flowers, and ocean waves, making the walk quite relaxing. Here, you can observe the mouth of the Hualien River, where the river and the Pacific Ocean meet, which is also the origin of Hualien's former name "Huilan". Additionally, you can gaze at the starting point of the Coastal Mountain Range, as well as Hualien and Ji'an urban areas, with an endless view of mountains and sea that uplifts the spirits of tourists. In summer, do be cautious of mosquitoes, insects, snakes, and the risk of heatstroke. Whether you are a photography enthusiast or a scenery admirer, Qiqi Ridge is definitely a must-see on every travel list, truly a rare gem. It is advised that visitors wear long-sleeved clothing and avoid wearing perfume. Please be aware that this area is inhabited by venomous snakes, wasps, and macaques, and visitors should stay on designated paths and comply with wildlife conservation laws. Given the aging military structures, do not lean on the railings to avoid danger, and do not enter during inclement weather.
