Chi Nan Forest Recreation Area Introduction
Chinan National Forest Recreation Area was originally a timber production and transportation station, and upon entering the park, visitors can see traces of its logging history. The area features a Forestry Exhibition Hall that provides insights into the forestry developments in the Chinan area from ancient times to the present. As visitors walk along the forest trails, various early logging industrial tools, such as locomotives, logging cableways, and collection equipment, are displayed. These early logging machines are well-preserved and showcased in the forest, complete with explanatory signs. Among them, the logging cableway (known as "liulong") passenger car is particularly special, serving as one of the important means of transporting personnel to Papaya Mountain at an elevation of 2,500 meters. At the highest point of the park, the Forestry Bureau has erected a monument to honor those who sacrificed themselves in the development of forestry. This monument is also the highest point in the Chinan area, offering a panoramic view of the scenic Carp Pond surrounded by mountains. The "bengbeng car" (currently only displayed statically) was crucial during the peak of logging operations, where timber felled by various logging sections was collected and transported to the current Chinan Recreation Area for storage before being shipped to other locations. The bengbeng car was an important machine for timber transportation and also served as a vital means for workers commuting up and down the mountains. The cableway (liulong) was the most economical and practical timber transportation equipment during the early logging industry. The passenger car was a significant transportation tool for delivering personnel and supplies, bearing historical marks that seem to tell the tales of a glorious past in the mountains. Currently, only the first section of the cableway remains in the park, making Chinan the only place in Taiwan where one can see the grandeur of the past cableway. Upon entering the forest recreation area, visitors first arrive at the "Forestry Exhibition Hall," where the service desk provides consultation services related to the park. Multimedia displays are adjusted to provide information about the park according to visitor demand. The first floor introduces the changes in forest ecology and flora and fauna at different altitudes, along with interactive games for families. The second floor mainly showcases the multifunctional uses of forests, and from there, visitors can also enjoy a distant view of Carp Pond. The Logging Tools Exhibition Hall was originally the management center for a grass skiing area and opened to the public after renovation in 2003. It displays various tools used in different periods of timber production, including logging, processing, collection, loading, and transportation equipment such as horses, hand saws, shovels, and axes, allowing visitors to reflect on the development of Taiwan's forestry industry through old photographs and understand the hardships faced by early loggers. The monument is specially erected by the Forestry Bureau to honor those who contributed significantly to forestry development. It is also the highest point in the Chinan area, offering a panoramic view of Carp Pond surrounded by mountains. The seed gashapon, which is both fun and diverse, includes "QQ Snowman and Night Owl" gashapon. Visitors are welcome to spin for a unique seed art piece in Chinan. The gashapon comes in both finished and DIY semi-finished options, allowing for free selection, making it highly recommended for families to participate together. Night visits to fireflies at Chinan National Forest Recreation Area, with its unpolluted environment and ample humidity, nurture a rich resource of fireflies. The "Black-winged Glowing Firefly" is the most commonly seen firefly in Chinan and a key player in Taiwan's firefly viewing scene. Each year during the transition from spring to summer, the vibrant Black-winged Glowing Fireflies dance through the Chinan forest at night, illuminating the area with their green glow.
