Matou An Old House Introduction
Matayan Old House was built in the 13th year of the Republic of China and is the most complete traditional Amis wooden house preserved in Hualien County. All the pillars and beams were sourced from Matsu Mountain, and the fragrant aroma of cypress wood can still be smelled today. The decorations throughout allow for appreciation of traditional Amis architectural techniques and ancestral wisdom, with exquisite carvings showcasing a strong indigenous flavor.
