Jili Pond Introduction
Surrounded by green mountains, a serene pond resembles a bright moon in the mountains, with an arch bridge reflecting on its surface. Walking along the trail around the pond allows visitors to appreciate the beautiful scenery and learn about aquatic life, providing an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. This hidden gem located at the foot of Masih Mountain in Guangfu is Jili Pond, a recently emerging attraction in Hualien. It features water play areas, ecological floating islands, and is an excellent destination for families to enjoy water activities, go hiking, and understand natural ecology during the hot summer days. Originally a timber storage pond left over from the Japanese colonial period, the upstream originates from a three-tiered waterfall. The various ponds are filled with clear mountain spring water and serve as habitats for native species such as the Chinese mitten crab, the La'wa creek crab, and the blackfin bitterling. It is also a recreational spot and rain prayer site for the Amis tribe in Guangfu Township. With the decline of the logging industry leading to its neglect, Jili Pond has been renovated and beautified, transforming it into a waterfront park for learning about natural ecology. Whether standing on the bridge listening to the soothing sound of flowing water or enjoying the view of Masih Mountain from a pavilion while chatting with friends and family, the tranquil environment makes it a must-visit attraction in Guangfu.
