Jili Lake Introduction
Surrounded by green mountains, a clear pond resembles a bright moon in the mountains, with a charming arched bridge reflecting on the water's surface. Walking along the waterfront trail allows visitors to enjoy the stunning scenery and learn about aquatic life, providing an escape from the noise of the city. This hidden gem nestled under the Masik Mountain in Guangfu Township is Jili Pond, a recently emerging attraction in Hualien. It features facilities such as a water play area and ecological floating islands, making it a great spot for families to enjoy water activities and explore nature during the hot summer days. Originally a lumber reservoir from the Japanese colonial period, Jili Pond is fed by a three-tiered waterfall upstream. The various ponds are filled with crystal-clear mountain spring water and serve as habitats for native species like the dual-color crab, Liu’s creek crab, and the Chikuchi minnow. It is also regarded as a water play secret spot and a rain praying site for the Amis people of Guangfu Township. After the decline of the lumber industry, Jili Pond fell into disrepair but has since been renovated and beautified, transforming it into a hydrophilic park for learning about natural ecology. Standing on the bridge listening to the gentle sounds of flowing water or gazing at Masik Mountain from a pavilion while chatting with friends and family, the tranquil environment makes it one of the must-visit spots in Guangfu.
