Lin Tian Shan Forestry Culture Park Introduction

Hidden in Hualien's Fenglin, Lintianshan, formerly known as Morisaka (the Japanese pronunciation of "森坂"), was renamed Senrong after the end of Japanese rule. It is the most intact and distinctive logging base left in Taiwan, and it is a significant site and witness in the history of Taiwan's forestry development in terms of both scale and importance. As early as the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese discovered hot springs in the Wanli River within the logging area, leading to the construction of inns for management and operation. In 1939, the extraction of pulp materials began, marking the start of forestry. During the peak of logging in the 1960s, Lintianshan was bustling with activity, earning it the nickname "Little Shanghai," and it was one of the four major logging sites in Taiwan. However, with the government's implementation of logging bans, the logging workers gradually left, taking away the former prosperity, but Lintianshan still retains the most complete logging scenes and imagery.
