Tainan District Court (Judicial Museum) Introduction

November 2016 marked the grand opening for public visits after the restoration of the former Tainan District Court, which was a major event for Tainan City that year. Built in 1912, the former Tainan District Court features a spectacular facade with grand columns and a circular Baroque-style roof. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a beautiful and well-lit dome, reminiscent of the magnificent lobby of the Chimei Museum. The large circular columns bordering the dome are exquisitely carved, and the flooring retains the original Victorian-style geometric pattern tiles from the Japanese colonial period. Entering the courthouse feels like stepping into a real-life modern Baroque architecture textbook, with stunning sights everywhere, all thanks to the work of Mr. Matsumoto Munezo, who designed countless iconic buildings during his 16 years in Taiwan.
