Yuanlin Department Store Introduction
On June 30, 2013, the restoration of the Lin Department Store, the most significant old building in Tainan, was completed and opened for public viewing. The queue began as early as 7 AM and continued without interruption until the afternoon. From that day forward, the visiting hours remained the same, with everyone happily waiting in line to enter the "Wuzhan Louzi," which opened in 1932 during the Japanese colonial period and featured the most advanced elevator of its time. The area around Zhongzheng Road was known as Mifuku-cho and was once a bustling part of early Tainan. However, as the Japanese colonial era came to an end and the operators returned to Japan, the Lin Department Store fell into obscurity, and Tainan residents gradually forgot its former glory. After a year of restoration, on June 14, 2014, the Lin Department Store was reborn as a department store in the city, with a lively street parade featuring the architectural style of the Japanese colonial era on Zhongzheng Road, creating an atmosphere as if all of Tainan had come to join the celebration.
