Shanshui Wetland Park Introduction
Shanshui Wetland Park is located behind the Shanshui Beach embankment and is a precious wetland in Penghu. The park covers an area of approximately 1.7 hectares. In 2012, an environmental renovation project was implemented to lower the sea dike and connect the internal and external wetlands, allowing the entire area to form a wetland ecology that incorporates aquatic, semiaquatic, and terrestrial plants. For example, there are many pioneer plants in Shanshui Wetland, such as the coastal grass that resembles a sea urchin. Due to the success of the improvement project, it received the highest honor of the National Excellence in Construction Award in 2012 under the name of an educational park, winning the Best Environmental Culture Excellence Award. Today, the area is rich in ecology and has a good environment. In addition to various plants, Shanshui Wetland is also a habitat for many bird species, including Great and Little Egrets and herons, with migratory birds from the sandpiper family being the most common. The park is equipped with facilities such as pathways and observation decks, where visitors can stroll along the trails, birdwatch, enjoy the sea, and watch the sunset, making it a very relaxing experience.
