Qingwan Cactus Park Introduction
At Qingwan Cactus Park, you can not only admire a variety of unique plants but also view precious relics, including facilities from the Japanese colonial period such as military camps, observation towers, fortified artillery bunkers, ammunition depots, and drainage ditches, all of which have been well preserved. Among them, the Daxian Fortress in 1902 is the earliest Japanese artillery fort in Penghu. Adjacent to the park is the Penghu International Diving Center, which benefits from its unique bay topography; the calmer waters make it particularly suitable for beginners. Just a three-minute drive away is the pristine Shiyu Beach. Stretching over 1 kilometer, Shiyu Beach is composed of coral and shell debris, featuring tranquil waters and a deep blue sea, along with sand dune landscapes that are ideal for viewing. It is one of the natural bathing areas in Penghu with excellent conditions and was once a very popular tourist spot. However, as businesses gradually exited, the number of visitors has decreased, making the beach relatively quiet. If you stroll through the streets of Shiyu, you might also see fish drying, as Shiyu is a typical fishing village with many fish processing factories. So, while you’re there, be sure to try the locally famous stinky dried fish!
