Sha-Li Beach Introduction
Sha Mao Mountain, located north of the Matsu settlement, resembles the traditional silk hats worn by ancient officials. The Matsu settlement is situated on the crown of the peninsula extending from the mountain, which is why it is referred to as "Matsu" or "Shanli." To the south, Matsu faces the sea and features a white sand beach composed of coral and shell fragments. In the early days, it served as a fishing ground where locals caught fish with nets and once developed into the largest seawater bath in the county, with scenery comparable to Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. Matsu Beach stretches over 1 kilometer and boasts wind-blown sand dune landscapes, calm waters, and deep blue seas, making it the best natural beach for bathing on Penghu Island. Walking on the beach made up of coral and shell sand, enjoying sunbathing, splashing in the water, or camping and cooking make it an ideal place to relax and escape for a day. The west side of the beach features a sand dune slope commonly known as "White Horse Slope," which poses a challenge for climbers. At Matsu Beach, visitors can engage in traditional fishing activities and experience life in a rich fishing village. In 2012, the television drama "Loves In Penghu" was filmed entirely in Penghu, with Matsu Beach as the main setting. The production preserved the boats used during filming, and the stunning vistas of Matsu impressed the director Liang Xiushen, prompting him to bring the entire crew to Penghu. "Loves In Penghu" stars Chen Bozheng, Zhang Qiongzi, Liang Hequn, Bai Xinhui, Zhao Junya, and Zhao Shirong, telling the story of an old captain opposing the gambling industry’s entry into Penghu. Additionally, the beautiful "Canon EOS 650D - Penghu Edition" advertisement was also filmed at Matsu Beach, so don't forget to come and experience it for yourself and take pictures with the fishing boats featured in the drama.
