Shalun Beach Introduction
To the north of the Matsu settlement, there is a small hill shaped like the traditional hat worn by ancient officials, known as Mashao Mountain. The Matsu settlement is located on the crown of the hill that extends out, referred to in Taiwanese as "Spoon," which is why it is called "Matsu Inner" or "Matsu." To the south of Matsu, there is a white sandy beach composed of coral and shell fragments, bordering the sea. In the past, it was a fishing ground for residents using nets, and it once developed into the largest seawater bathing area in the county, with scenery comparable to Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. Matsu Beach stretches over 1 kilometer, featuring wind-eroded sand dunes, calm waters, and crystal-clear blue seas, making it the best natural beach for swimming on Penghu Island. Walking on the beach made of coral and shell sand, enjoying sunbathing, playing in the waves, or camping and cooking outdoors, it is indeed the perfect place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of life. On the western sandy beach, there is a steep dune known as "White Horse Slope," which presents a challenge for climbers. Matsu Beach offers traditional fishing activities, allowing visitors to experience rich fishing village life! In 2012, the television drama "Loves In Penghu" was filmed entirely in Penghu, with Matsu Beach as the main location. The production team retained the boats used during filming, and the stunning scenery of Matsu prompted director Liang Xiushen to bring the entire crew to Penghu for shooting. "Loves In Penghu" stars Chen Bozheng, Zhang Qiongzi, Liang Hequn, Bai Xinhui, Zhao Junya, Zhao Shirong, and Shi Yuanjie. The story revolves around an old captain who opposes the gambling industry from entering Penghu. Additionally, the beautiful Canon EOS 650D advertisement film features the fishing netting location at Matsu Beach, so don't forget to come and experience it yourself and take a photo with the boats from the show!
