Dai Yi Temple Introduction
In Zhuwan Village, Xiyu Township, there is a harbor with moderate water depth and stable currents, with the main economic activity centered around fishing. In earlier years, it was a production site for Penghu fishing boats, having seven to eight shipyards at its peak. However, as the fishing industry gradually declined, the shipyards' businesses plummeted, and currently, only one shipyard in Zhuwan is still in operation. The fishing practices in Zhuwan have also changed; due to its calm waters and vast sea areas, it was selected as an experimental area for cage aquaculture starting in 1975. Cage aquaculture is a method of farming fish with artificial feeding, primarily producing white pomfret, grouper, and oysters. Besides fishing, Zhuwan is famous for its white membrane peanuts, which yield a harvest once a year. The peanuts are planted from late January to early February and are gradually harvested starting in June. Because white membrane peanuts are harvested when they are still immature, they have a unique taste that makes them a favorite among gourmets; Zhuwan is also recognized as the best quality peanut production area in Penghu. Another notable attraction in Zhuwan is the local religious center, Dayi Temple, which enshrines the deity Guan Yu. The temple's front square features a large statue of a horse attendant holding Guan Yu's mount, Red Hare. In the basement of the temple, there is also a lotus coral cave made of coral stone, with walls covered in various colored corals, creating an underwater world experience. Next to Dayi Temple, there is the Zhuwan Crab Museum, which houses over 600 species of crab specimens, totaling thousands of crabs, many of which are varieties not seen in the country, providing a fascinating experience for visitors.
