Xiao Men Geological Exploration Museum Introduction
The Little Gate Geological Exploration Museum underwent its third renovation in July 2020 and reopened at the end of January 2021, being renamed the Little Gate Geological Exploration Museum. It showcases a prehistoric theme and incorporates multimedia sound and light elements into the venue. The museum is divided into six main areas: Entrance Image Service Area, Deep Sea Rock Area, Egg-shaped Projection Area, Dinosaur and Plant Model Scenic Area, Basalt Introduction Wall, and Exit Display Area. Little Gate Islet is located to the north of the Western Islet (Yuwong Island) in Penghu County, covering an area of 0.5121 square kilometers. During high tide, it becomes an independent island, nicknamed the "Pearl of the Houmen Current" due to its proximity to the Houmen Current. Later, the Little Gate Bridge (a short sea bridge) was built to connect it with the Western Islet, and the Penghu National Scenic Area Administration established parking lots, circular trails, and other related facilities, making it a famous scenic area in Penghu County. The name of Little Gate Islet originates from a small path to the east of Little Gate Village that is flanked by basalt cliffs. Historically, residents of Little Gate Village had to pass this path, which appeared to look like a gate from a distance, thus giving the area its name.
