Niu Mu Ping Introduction
Why is this vast grassland called Nioumu Ping? Just look towards the sea and you will know! Because there is a large rock shaped like a cow floating on the surface of the water near the shore, this grassland on the cliff is named Nioumu Ping. The Nioumu Ping coastline features both bay topography and wave-cut platforms, and the volcanic breccia at Nioumu Ping is not only thick but also layered, with collapse structures which suggest that the lava layers may have erupted during different periods. Thus, it is speculated that the Nioumu Ping area might be an ancient volcanic crater, one of the nine ancient craters in the Penghu archipelago. Following a small path down from Nioumu Ping, you can reach Nioumu Ping Bay, which is the only pebble beach in Taiwan composed of a mixture of basalt, sand grains, and coral reef rocks. In this bay, you can swim, snorkel, dig for wild oysters, and even go sea fishing; however, the underwater coral reefs may cause situations where fish get hooked before they bite. Nioumu Ping is not only a great place for locals to graze their livestock, but it also serves as an excellent camping site, allowing visitors to enjoy the vastness of both the sky and the grassland, and to appreciate the lush green of the grassland alongside the deep blue of the sea, creating a very pleasant and leisurely experience.
