Xiyu Pingyu Introduction
Xiyu Pingyu, the westernmost island of the Southern Four Islands, is about a 25-minute boat ride from Wang'an and is closely adjacent to Dongyu Pingyu. The two islands are collectively referred to as "Banpingyu" or "Yuping." At the shoreline, you can see the island's spiritual center, Huan Niang Temple, which worships the main deity Huan Niang, along with other deities such as General Wu and Mazu. To reach the village, one must walk up a slope called "Haohan Po" from the pier. Here, you can find many ancient houses made of stacked stones and basalt, although most residents have already moved away. Xiyu Pingyu is primarily a quadrilateral mountain terrain, with columnar basalt cliffs on the east side and contoured sea cliffs on the west side, where you can see sea erosion grooves and sea caves formed by ocean currents. The east and north sides feature basalt pebble beaches, and in the northeast corner, not far from the coast, you can see a sea stack isolated in the ocean, locally known as "Diaozi." From the northwest corner, Xiyu Mountain offers a view of Tiezhu Island and Toujin Island, where the sea and sky blend beautifully, creating a stunning landscape. Not only does Xiyu Pingyu have diverse landscapes on land, but its underwater world is also remarkable. The surrounding waters are rich in coral species and vibrant in color, making it the island with the highest coverage in the Southern Four Islands. Underwater, you can see large areas of branching or table-type coral, teeming with various marine life, making it highly valuable for conservation and a paradise for snorkelers!
