Siyu Pingyu Introduction
Xiyu Pingyu, the westernmost island of the Nanshan Four Islands, is about a 25-minute boat ride from Wang'an and is closely connected to Dongyu Pingyu, collectively referred to as "Ban Pingyu" or "Yuping." The island's religious center, Huanan Temple, can be seen from the shore, where the main deity, Huanan, along with other deities such as Wushui and Mazu, are worshiped. To reach the village, you must walk up a slope called "Haohan Slope" from the dock, where you can see many ancient houses made of stacked basalt and tuff. However, most residents have now relocated. Xiyu Pingyu features a quadrilateral mountainous terrain, with columnar basalt sea cliffs on the east side, while the continuous cliffs on the west side showcase sea erosion gullies and caves formed by ocean currents. The east and north sides have basalt pebble beaches, and an erosional pillar known locally as "Diaozi" can be seen not far from the coast at the northeast corner. From Xiwushan in the northwest corner, visitors can enjoy views of Tiezhanyu and Toujin Islet, offering a picturesque blend of sea and sky. Xiyu Pingyu boasts diverse land landscapes, and its underwater world is equally fascinating, with a rich variety and vibrant colors of corals in the surrounding waters. It has the highest coral coverage among the Nanshan Four Islands, showcasing large colonies of branched or plate-like corals, inhabited by various marine life, making it a valuable area for conservation and a paradise for snorkelers!
