Xiyu Pingyu Introduction
Pijin Island, the westernmost of the Nansha Islands, is about a 25-minute boat ride from Wang'an, closely adjacent to Dongyin Island. The two islands are closely related and are collectively referred to as "Banpingyu" or "Yuping." At the shoreline, one can see the island's religious center, Huaniang Temple, which worships the main deity Huaniang, along with other gods such as Wushai and Mazu. To reach the village, one must walk along a slope called "Haohan Po" from the pier. Here, you can see many ancient houses made of stone and basalt, but most residents have already moved away. Pijin Island primarily features a quadrilateral-shaped mountainous terrain, with columnar basalt cliffs on the east side and a continuous cliff on the west side, where you can observe sea erosion grooves and sea caves formed by the ocean current. The eastern and northern sides have basalt gravel beaches, and in the northeast corner, there is an isolated sea stack, locally known as "Diaozi," not far from the shore. At the northwest corner, Xiwushan offers a view of Tiezhong Island and Doujin Island, where the sea and sky blend, creating a beautiful landscape. Pijin Island is not only diverse in terrestrial scenery, but the underwater world is also spectacular. The surrounding waters have a rich variety and abundance of corals, making it the area with the highest coverage in the Nansha Islands. Underwater, you can see large branches or table-shaped axis-hole corals, with various marine organisms weaving through, making it a place of great conservation value and a paradise for snorkelers!
